DD-WRT micro on WRT54G Version 6

Being a die hard OpenWRT fan I made a hard decision tonight. It wasn't based on any dissatisfaction with OpenWRT but it was based on the fact that OpenWRT doesn't seem as 'recommended' for the newer Linksys WRT54G(S) routers (specifically Versions 5 & 6) vs. DD-WRTs multiple tutorials. DD-WRT has a micro version available that has a few tutorials for doing it and after looking over all of them went with the WRTrouters.com approach. Went off w/out a hitch and time will tell how I like it.

The first impression when using DD-WRT vs OpenWRT is the web interface has much more functionality available to the average user.

Microsoft Windows Vista - Should I?

Well I guess I'll need to write something up because now I'm having customers ask about Windows Vista and if they should do the upgrade.

The first issue to discuss is when should I upgrade and my recommendation has always been as late as possible. Why, because upgrades rarely go as smoothly as people want and they usually require upgrading at least one piece of paid software they current have installed on their prior version of Windows. For example I've run into situations many times where the user must now purchase the newer version of Quicken to keep doing their financial work. Usually it is more cost effective to buy another machine and when doing that help the customer understand that they should budget new software purchases to go along with the purchase. We take it on a case-by-case basis but I feel I'd rather prepare the customer for the worst than surprise them. If you must have it please wait a minimum of 3 months after the release of the first major Service Pack.

Disable/Hide/Remove Navigation Menu in SharePoint 2003

In the event you read my post, Disable/Hide/Remove Quick Launch Bar, and were wondering how to do it with the Navigation Menu at the top of SharePoint 2003 consider your days of wondering or wandering ;) as over. If you're not sure which menu I'm talking about here's a screenshot (with a non-default theme) inside a site.

So it is the standard: Home, Documents and Lists, Create, Site Settings, Help, Up to [Parent Site], etc. The items immediately under this menu like the search bar will remain so you'll need to do a View Source through your browser to see the class name on those if you'd like to hide them.
